Patriots bench

October 26th, 2008

We might as well been on the Patriots bench for the game against the St Louis Rams today.

My brother got tickets for section 110, row 1 seats 7, 8 and 9. I was in seat 7 on the 45 yard line and my sister was in seat 9 on the 47 yard line. We made a sign up and tied it to the railing in front of us:

The sign by you.

My mom would joke that she wanted her ashes scattered across Gilette Stadium when she died. With the field turf that they have now, it would be kind of silly to do that – but we did get front row seats to a game for Mama. Before the game started Andre Tippett was walking back and forth behind the Patriots bench. He stopped almost in front of us and was talking to someone. My sister said he said “Nice sign” about our sign ~ though he didn’t come over. None of the players did, nor did they react to any of the comments made by the crowd. I saw Randy Moss and Teddy Bruschi giving the sign the eye during the game:

Teddy!

And Coach Belichick had to have seen it, as he came over to talk to the defense several times through out the game:

Belichick giving some pointers by you.

So while Mama’s ashes weren’t scattered on the field grass, the Patriots did hear of Mama, and her fond love of the team.

The game was pretty fun to watch, a close game with some good plays by both teams. What amazed me was how much time Belichick spent not watching the offense. While the offense was out on the field, he spent most of the time with the defense – or at least standing by the defense going over the pictures and writing down notes in his book. While one unit was out on the field, the other unit would mostly sit on the bench and talks amongst themselves. Like all the secondary would stay together, all the wideouts, etc. Occassionally one of them would get up and cheer the other unit:

Randy Moss & Coach Belichick by you.

Sitting so close to the team was an amazing experience and well worth the cost of admission.
