Tired pt 2

July 31st, 2008

I’m soooo tired still. The past couple days I’ve awoken to the alarm clock. Usually I’ll wake up before it goes off. Like I did today. Thanks to the cat I as up about 5:30 am or so (it was light out at least). And in the evening I become exhausted – like need to drink some coffee at 6pm to stay awake to 10pm. . .

::raises fist:: damn you jet lag!

or perhaps it was my lack of sleep during SDCC. . .or perhaps it is the busy busy day at work, digging out from the pile of stuff left for me. . .though the girls and guys at work did pick up a lot of my vacation slack, there was stuff a great amount of stuff to do when I got back.

Inaccurate Cuil Image results

July 30th, 2008

I heard about this new websearch tool, Cuil, so I had to check out the results for Cerebus. I mean, come on!

When I typed in Cerebus, I was pleased to see the results had my CerebusFangirl page up the top, but I wasn’t too pleased with the image. Here is a screen shot of it:

http://www.cerebusfangirl.com/uploads/cuilsearch.jpg

(make with the clicky for a bigger picture of it)

“Shameless Marketing for Brazen Hussies”. What the . . .?!? That image is not up on my CFG site at all. It is kinda appropriate for Dave’s Anti-Feminist views, but it does not representive the content of the site at all. So I found a contact email for the Cuil website and sent them this email:

So I’m checking out your new search engine, and of course I have to search for my fave comic, Cerebus. What do I find but my site near the top. But what is this image with it? Brazen Hussies?

http://www.cerebusfangirl.com/uploads/cuilsearch.jpg

What the heck? I don’t have that image up on my site any where. So I looked at the source for the page and the image comes from this:

http://www.cuilimg.com/imgsrv?i=020f12:1311170148146054

Could you please remove this image from the results for my webpage please?

Thanks!

take care,
margaret

We’ll see if they respond at all or if they take down the image as right now Cuil is showing inaccurate image results – it doesn’t make for a good start.

So tired

July 29th, 2008

Ohhh lordy lou. I was so tired yesterday that in my blog entry I said James Owen’s name was James Owens.  I said “procedurings” instead of procedings. . .

This morning I felt beat even thought I had like 8 hours of straight sleep. It was the same tired muscle feeling that I had after a 20 mile road march with a loaded ruck sack.

I wonder where (or whom) Heritage Auctions is getting its estimates from.  For instance, remember those tracing paper preliminary sketches that Jeff T  put up on eBay for Dave? They started at $5 or so, and yes, some got up to $50, but most went for between starting bid and $30 or so.  So when I saw this auction:

Dave Sim – Jaka Preliminary Sketch Original Art, Group of 3 (undated). These three preliminary sketches of Cerebus’ great lover interest, Jaka, were created by Dave Sim for his masterwork, Cerebus the Aardvark. Rendered in graphite on tracing paper, each drawing has an approximate image area of 5″ x 8″, and is signed by Dave Sim. In Excellent condition.

I was thinking, starting bid of $25 with an ending bid of approximately $150 at the most, closer to $100 more likely. So I laughed when I saw Heritage’s estimate of $400 to $600 a laugh. They’re nice prelim sketches, but an estimate of $133 to $200 each? Not so likely with what I’ve seen of the other prelim’s so far. Heck, Heritage doesn’t even have any details on them: like what issue and panel they’re from.

San Diego Comic Con Highlights

July 28th, 2008

Oh my gawd. NYCC kind of prepared me for SDCC, but still. . .not really. So many things to talk about, but since I’ve been up since 7:30 am yesterday – we took the red eye flight back here last night / this morning, on which I only got about 3 hours of intermittent sleep along with a few minutes here and there in the Philly airport and the flight back to Providence – so because of that, I’m only going to give highlights right now:

  • Having Jackson Publick come over to Jeff T and myself while we were in costume and say he really liked our costumes and asked if he could take our picture. With my red goggles and Jackson’s mirrored sunglasses I didn’t even recognize him. When I finally did, I asked if we could get our picture taken with him:

    Go Team Venture! by you.

  • After the pictures Jackson hung around with us and chatted about what not. He was super friendly and fun to hang out with. He gave us some passes to get into the Adult Swim party which was being held at “Petco Park”, where the Padres play, after the con that day.

  • We got into the Venture Bros panel, and afterwards was the Robot Chicken panel. After the cool video played,  the panel came out. When they were all seated and about to sit down, Seth Green stopped the procedurings and said he said two people dressed in Venture Bro costumes and asked us to stand up. I looked around. And he said, yes, you. So Jeff T and myself stood up and Seth took out his camera and took some pictures of us.  Later that night at the adult swim party we got our picture taken with him:
  • Monarch Henchmen and Seth Green by you.

  • Meeting James Owens: I saw the Starchild booth so I walked on over. James was sitting there sketching, and as soon as I walked up he stood up, shook my hand and when I asked for a picture, he came out from behind the booth and his brother took the picture for us. James and me talked for a bit, and he was ever the gentleman:
  • James Owens and Margaret by you.

  • I also got to meet and talk with Shannon Wheeler, Terry Moore and Max Brooks.  We also bumped into Gary Groth, Gail Simone,  and a few others.

This was my first SDCC, and it was amazing. And I’m exhausted. Clicking on the links for the pictures will bring up the Flickr page for that picture, if you want to see my entire set, just click here.
